The original "Family Practice"
Rose and Ian have worked together as Midwives for as long as they have been married. They have taught for healthcare and midwifery schools in the Philippines, Nepal, and the United States since 2003. Together, they have attended more than 220 births and founded The Natural Alternative homebirth midwifery practice in Boise, Idaho. They have also helped start and operate free maternity clinics in the Philippines.
Vicki is Ian's mother and has not only trained her immediate family, but also hundreds of other midwives over the years that she has practiced. She has founded homebirth and birth center practices in Alaska, as well as non-profit maternity centers in Southeast Asia and Latin America. Vicki has also developed numerous midwifery schools, seminars, and trainings to teach and equip other midwives. She has attended over 2000 births. The maternity centers she and her family have established in Southeast Asia have seen more than 12,000 babies born completely free of charge to impoverished families.
All of the Penwells are currently academic and clinical preceptors for the National College of Midwifery. They are strong believers in passing on the education and knowledge of midwifery.
